I have played Boccia for many years now, it is now a Paralympic sport with no Olympic counterpart. Playing Boccia has been a really rewarding experience for me. It allows anybody with a physical disability like myself. the opportunity to compete at the highest level.
I’ve been fortunate enough to compete both nationally and internationally representing my country. It’s a sport that demands precision, strategy and control!
What makes Boccia unique is that it’s played entirely on my own merit. Every decision made on court from the positioning of my ramp, choosing the right angle and selecting what type of ball weight I use is mine to make as the athlete. My assistant is merely my hands, they are not allowed to face the game or influence my choices.
This ensures that each match is truly a test of my skill and decision making ability. I get a great sense of accomplishment from successfully playing and hopefully winning my own game ,
It’s incredibly satisfying! Boccia is more than a physical sport, it challenges my mental abilities as well.
Boccia has opened doors for me not just as an athlete , but as a part of a larger community, reminding me that there are no limits to what can be achieved through hard work and determination!
