Live In Care
NDIS Provider
Home Care Package Provider

If you or your loved one needs high levels of care as you grow older, it can be hard to know what to do. Moving into an aged care home might give you access to more support, but it can be difficult to uproot from your home and live somewhere unfamiliar.

This is where live in care can help. Live in home care is when a carer stays the night in your home, and offers one-to-one support. While they provide active care during the day (e.g. for a period of eight hours), they are also on-hand through the night if you need assistance.

If you aren’t ready to move into an aged care home, live in care allows you to stay at home and remain close to your local community. Your family can have peace of mind knowing you are safe and well cared for, while you enjoy quality of life.

The benefits of live in home care are:

  • having a unique care plan that is personalised to your needs, interests and lifestyle;
  • avoiding being placed in a residential care facility before you are ready;
  • a live-in professional caregiver can build relationships with family members;
  • consistency in caregivers so you feel comfortable with the people supporting you;
  • a sense of calm from familiar surroundings, especially for those with dementia;
  • ensuring your medical and personal needs are met at night by familiar care workers;
  • reducing the incidence of skin infections and urinary tract infections;
  • minimise risk of falls for those who need assistance with moving around the home (e.g. getting out of bed in the morning)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 24 hour aged care and live in care?

Live in home care for seniors and 24 Hour Care may sound similar, but there are some key differences. Lived in care is when a care worker visits and sleeps overnight in your loved one’s home. This means they are on hand to support you through the night if you need help (e.g. toileting, transferring in and out of bed). This type of care suits for those who generally sleep through the night, and may need care at irregular times.

24 Hour Care is round the clock care over a 24-hour period, usually provided by a team of care workers and nurses who share the workload. They provide care in shifts, so you can be supported continuously.

If you are eligible, the cost of care can be funded through your Home Care Package. A Home Care Package is a government-funded program that allows older people to receive care services in their own home, so they can live independently for as long as possible. Once you have received a package, you can choose a care provider you like. You then work with them to create a care plan and suite of services that best meets your needs. The government then pays that provider a subsidy to deliver services in your home.

Senior live in care is available through a Home Care Package, depending on what level of care you are approved for. Home Caring provides live in home care in a cost effective way without compromising on quality, making good use of your funding so that nothing is wasted. For more information on how to apply for a Home Care Package, see here on our website.

Live in elderly care is suitable for someone has high care needs – perhaps due to a medical condition or complex conditions – but only need active care for up to 8 hours during the day. The in home carer sleeps through the night so they are available if needs arise, such as help with toileting, or transferring in and out of bed.
We take a personalised approach to live in care at home, so our clients are comfortable and their families can have peace of mind, knowing they are safe. This means we take the time to get to know you, listen to you, and help you design a customised care plan. We also provide you with a consistent team of carers, so you can get to know us and feel comfortable with the people in your home.

We are also committed to providing high quality of care and excellent service. Our experienced and qualified care workers and nurses deliver exceptional care according to current best practice. We also work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, other health professionals and with your support network.

Our dedicated team is also open to feedback and easy to communicate with. If you have a question about your personalised care plan – or about your loved one’s care – we take the time to explain and discuss the best approaches, and incorporate your suggestions.

Everyone is unique with different needs, hobbies, interests and personalities. That means care plans should be personalised to suit you, and help you achieve quality of life and joyful living.

Home Caring’s team work with you and your family, so that you are in the drivers’ seat of your care. We are adaptable and design our services around what our clients need to live fulfilled lives. We can also adjust our care as your needs change, so your services are always relevant to your situation.

Helping your loved one make informed choices about their care can be hard, especially if require a large amount of care for their needs. Start by talking to them about what they want. Would they like to stay at home or move into an aged care facility? What services are most important to them? What kind of support do they need to stay independent?

If they have high care needs, one option is live in care for elderly people. If they aren’t receiving government-funded aged care, you can start the process together. The first step is applying for an assessment with ACAT (the Aged Care Assessment Team) through My Aged Care. You can do this on their website or by calling My Aged Care on 1800 200 422. It takes about 20 minutes of your time. Once your loved one has applied (or you have done so on their behalf), your local ACAT assessor will be in touch to arrange a free face-to-face assessment at home. You can be with them for the entire process.

Once your loved one has been approved for government aged care funding, it’s time to starting looking for a home care provider that meets their needs. As you explore your options, you’ll have an opportunity to meet the care team, ask any questions you have, and see if they are a good fit for the person receiving care.

Not sure where to start and want to chat to someone about the process? We’re here to assist. Please get in touch to talk about live in care for the elderly at home.

The Australian Government has announced significant changes to the aged care system introducing the Support at Home program set to commence on 1 July 2025. This initiative aims to enhance support for older Australians enabling them to remain in their homes longer and receive more personalised care.

Key Features of the Support at Home Program:

• Reduced Wait Times: The program will shorten the waiting period for in-home aged care services ensuring timely assistance for those in need.

• Tailored Support Levels: Support at Home introduces eight levels of ongoing care replacing the previous four, to better match individual needs.

• No Caps on Cleaning and Gardening: Unlike previous programs there will be no annual caps on cleaning and gardening services allowing for more comprehensive support.

• Care Management Cap: A 10% cap on care management costs will remain in place to maintain affordability.

• Assistive Technology Access: The program will expedite access to assistive devices like walkers and wheelchairs enhancing mobility and independence.

• Increased Support Funding: The maximum support level will rise from $61,000 to $78,000, providing more resources for those with complex needs.

• Restorative and Allied Health Services: There will be a temporary funding boost for restorative and allied health services, aiding recovery and well-being.

• Palliative Care Support: The program includes provisions for palliative care allowing older Australians to spend their final weeks at home surrounded by loved ones.

Staged Implementation of Price Caps:

Price caps on services will be phased in starting from 1 July 2026. For the first year providers will continue to set their own prices similar to the current Home Care Packages program. In early 2025, consultations will be held with older people, advocates, families, carers and the sector to ensure fair pricing and robust consumer protections during this transition.

No Worse Off Principle:

To protect existing Home Care Package recipients, the government has introduced the “No Worse Off” principle:

• Grandfathering: Individuals approved for a Home Care Package as of 12 September 2024 will transition to the new system without financial disadvantage.

• Fee Structure: If you were a full-rate pensioner paying no fees under your Home Care Package as of 12 September 2024, you will continue to pay no fees under Support at Home. If you were required to pay fees, you will pay the same or less under the new program.

At Home Caring we are dedicated to supporting our older community members through these changes. We are committed to ensuring the financial safety and well-being of our clients providing personalised care that aligns with the new Support at Home program. Our team is here to assist you in navigating these updates, ensuring you receive the care and support you deserve. 🩵
