Meet your local director

Jo Sheehan. Care from the heart.

I was drawn to care because I enjoy supporting people and making a positive difference in their lives. What matters most to me is treating every person with dignity, compassion and respect, and taking the time to understand their needs and goals.

I want you and your family to feel listened to, valued and supported. I want you to know you can rely on us for caring, respectful and consistent support.

Jo and the Myall Coast team take the time to get to know you, your health needs, cultural background and preferences, so they can match you with the right support worker and care plan.

Why choose HomeCaring Myall Coast

Care you can feel confident about.

Families often ask about fees and charges, whether we have enough staff, and how their loved one will get to specialist appointments. This is how we help.

  • Do you have enough trained staff?

Yes. We provide training and orientation for all staff, and the whole team supports each other during business hours. Outside business hours, a manager monitors our after-hours phone during all rostered hours.

  • How do I change providers?

First, tell your current provider in writing that you plan to change. Once your exit date is confirmed, we’ll support your move. Before you change, we’ll talk through what you need from your Support at Home services. We’ll also explain our fees and charges, so you can be confident we’re the right fit.

  • What clinical support do you have?

Alongside our director, our team includes four more registered nurses and four endorsed enrolled nurses. We meet regularly to review clinical matters, including wound care and higher-risk needs, and we work with a wound specialist for complex care.

  • Can you help with transport to specialists?

We cover a large regional area, and families often don’t live locally. We can help with transport to specialist appointments.

Local stories

Families we support on the Myall Coast.

Group social support, Mid North Coast

Out N About: getting out into the community

Participants in our Out N About program needed transport, and standby help getting in and out of the van.

Our Activities and Leisure Officer planned an outing around their interests, support needs and accessibility requirements. Our team provided the transport and support on the day.

The outing helped participants stay connected to their community and enjoy time together.

Group physical wellbeing and social support, Tea Gardens

Gentle exercise in Tea Gardens

Participants wanted supported, gentle exercise to help keep their mobility, strength, balance and flexibility, and a chance to connect with others.

Our Activities and Leisure Officer coordinated classes led by an osteopath, with gentle exercises suited to each person’s abilities and time to socialise over refreshments.

Participants took part in gentle movement and social time together, supporting their physical wellbeing and connection with others.

In their words

What families say.

Out N About, National Motorcycle Museum, Nabiac

“My father had just come home from the war. He wasn’t a talker, but you’d often find him working on an old Triumph. He’d spend hours patiently fixing it. It’s a treasured memory.”
A participant on our Out N About visit to Nabiac

Gentle exercise program

“I didn’t think much was happening… I seem to be able to bend down better to put my shoes on without groaning! It’s the last thing I feel like doing on Fridays, but when I make the effort, I’m glad I come. Knowing I am part of a group motivates… if I am by myself, I put it off… afterwards I love the cheese platter… that’s something I never do for myself.”

Out N About

Social outings that combine local history and learning with conversation and reminiscing. Examples include visits to historic Australian pubs, the National Motorcycle Museum at Nabiac and local lunch tours. Bus outings suit you if you can board with minimal help, use the toilet on your own and manage the walking at the destination.

Part of the community

Our team and local connections.

  • Our newsletter

Every three months, we send a newsletter to everyone we support, with upcoming events and important information about your Support at Home services.

  • Speaking up for you

We’re so well connected in our community that we can advocate for you on many levels, whenever you ask us to.

  • Local business connections

We have strong ties with other local businesses. For example, we recently worked with a local real estate agent to help an older person we support, who was in a vulnerable situation, move to a new home locally.

  • Filling a local gap

Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) funding isn’t available to us, and that’s a gap in this region. So we’ve set up brokerage with several other providers, to do the work they can’t do in our area.
