So by now, I guess you are wondering what is On Our Own Tracks? Why do we write from different people all the time? Well, I am about to tell you our story and hopefully answer all your questions!
I guess our story started with me, my little self going off to my first day of school… As I was an nonverbal wheelchair user growing up in a little town called the Hawkesbury I spent my childhood mostly in a very abled world. It was after loosing a good friend to suicide and an operation on my thyroid that made me realise three things. The first was how beautiful connections with people from both the abled and disabled communities could be, how I could use my skills in both writing and art to influence the world and most importantly how lucky I was having the most beautiful support around me. With all of these things racing
around my head. I launched our website in early 2018 as a blog documenting how I was finding ways to be active with my disability as well as other people’s stories of strength.
As the months went on and the blog continued to grow amazingly I began to realise two more things. The need for flexibility and accessibility within employment and the need for a place that bridges the gap between the abled and disabled communities. This takes us to today, we are building a team of professionals from all walks of life. We have been working on content writing, we have a three hour support worker workshop that we have delivered multiple times, we sell all types of products (some of which are communication aids), we also do some motivational speaking, mainly in schools. I feel that it is very important in our situation to have our company not be defined as doing one thing or task. I feel that it’s very important for us to remain as open as possible so we can use all of our uniquely different skills, passions and experiences to assist our society in ways that our society needs.
